Taqsim by Arabic Buzuq master Matar Muhammad
16Jun10
Matar Muhammad was one of the greatest players of the buzuq. He was born in Lebanon in 1939 and passed away in 1995. By all accounts, he was underappreciated and broke during most of his lifetime. I haven’t been able to locate many of his recordings, but there is this 1996 CD :
He also has a couple of solos on the “An Introduction to the Music of the Near East” LP on Ethnic Music Heritage. [MHS 1803]
Update 7/10/2010: Muhammad also has a track on UNESCO “Arabian Music: Maqam” LP.

There’s no deserts in Lebanon. Thanks for highlighting this great soloist though! I created a Facebook page for him:

Was looking forward to hearing this much-praised record but unfortunately the links are down. Would be very grateful for a re-upload.
Rick – I just updated the link to point to another site I found. Check it out and let us know if it works?
Thank you! The links are good today.
